Institut Galien Paris-Saclay

The Institut Galien Paris-Saclay (UMR CNRS 8612), founded in 1986, celebrates its 40th anniversary!

His members develop micro- and nanotechnologies for medical and diagnostic applications. The units’ unique characteristic is bringing together academics from different disciplines (chemistry, physical chemistry, galenics, analytical chemistry, and biology). Our research themes are organized according to four major challenges:

1- Tame physiological barriers

2- Design intelligent, programmable, activable, and biocompatible materials

3- Develop predictive models for the formation of new objects and their transport across biological barriers (tissue, cellular, and subcellular)

4- Combine chemistry, physical chemistry, and formulation for diagnostics and imaging purposes.

To address these challenges, the Institut Galien Paris-Saclay possesses a wide range of state-of-the-art research equipment gathered into four platforms driven by highly qualified scientific officers and technicians (nano-objects characterisation, biology, analytical, and biophysics & instrumentation platforms). The Institut Galien Paris-Saclay attracts every year a large number of doctoral students and post-doctoral researchers from around the world. We accommodate members of the Institut Universitaire de France, members of the National Academy of Pharmacy and Academy of Medicine, and an emeritus professor member of the Academy of Sciences.

We are located on the Moulon plateau in Orsay, in the new Henri Moissan building, near several state-of-the-art laboratories, which promote high interdisciplinarity, the driving force behind all great discoveries in the pharmaceutical field.
